Reebok Football 07/08

We were asked to design a fold-out poster which would be distributed at football matches at the start of the 2007 football season. The poster was a manifesto, a statement by Reebok to explain their vision of the game and illustrate new product. Leagas Delaney designed the print campaign in line with the visual language. We created the graphic headline text for both Performance and Lifestyle campaigns.

The visual language governed every aspect of the design, from the white background to the branding, type, layout and photocopied graphics. The photography is by Perou, who was also proposed within the visual language. The campaign was produced by Leagas Delaney. It includes magazine ads and outdoor multi-sheet placements.

Helly Hansen Sailing

We worked closely with the Marketing Department at Helly Hansen’s head office near Oslo, mixing dramatic action photography with a second colorised image to create an energetic aspirational message. The Spring/Summer 2002 Sailing campaign was run in core market magazines, lifestyle titles and point of sale.

Helly Hansen Wintersports

The Winter 2002 magazine campaign was built around the wintersports pro-team. Designs were produced for 5 skiers and 5 snowboarders. Photographer Ray Watkins was commissioned to produce a series of images in a documentary/reportage style. Riders are captured in their homes and other familiar locations, doing what they like to do out of season (campaign had to be created during the Summer). Portraits are accentuated with smaller an snow details. Helly Hansen is an authentic brand and we wanted to reflect this within the design. There is no copy line, just the rider name and brand. The images were combined in a layered style referencing photographic accidents and double exposures.

Channel Four – Will & Grace

Working directly with the Marketing Dept at Channel Four Television, we designed a magazine advertising campaign to promote the launch of Will & Grace. The show was new to UK audiences. Our brief was to create a story around a series of US comedies, capitalising on the popularity of the well established Ally McBeal and Friends shows. The campaign ran in titles including Cosmopolitan, Elle, Glamour, InStyle, Red, Heat, Hello and OK magazine.

An 8pp barndoor insert was followed by a single page design for each show. We decided on a simple story, setting the scene with night shots of New York city, before arriving at three buildings, each representing one of the shows. Promotional shots were dropped into the window spaces, creating a voyeuristic taster for each show. The treatment is the same for each programme, implying that if you like Friends, or Ally McBeal, then you’ll like Will & Grace too.

As the TV launch dates drew closer, single page adverts completed the progression from aerial shots of New York to bring the viewer right outside an individual show/window. Apropos provided a full design and production service. We created the design concept, copywrote the campaign and created the artwork. New York photography was sourced from Corbis and Magnum libraries. We also shot the window images used on single page adverts.

Reebok Classics – World Cup

In February 2006 Apropos was asked to create an in-store graphic style for a campaign to promote a limited edition of the Reebok Classic trainer collection. The slogan “England Win You Win” explained the offer – should England win the World Cup, Reebok would refund the cost of the trainers. The campaign ran exclusively within JJB and Intersport stores. We designed a simple A3 promotion, creating our own imagery and hand painted lettering reflecting the home made supporters banner. This was later adapted for web and in-store equipment.
