Aid and Abet are six months into a year long residency with Cambridge University at the North West Cambridge development. The studio is at Gravel Hill Farm, on the site of a 150 hectare development on the outskirts of Cambridge. The plan is to build a sustainable, mixed use and diverse community. An ambitious long-term project focusing on design, urban planning and a fundamental appreciation of the natural environment – one third of the site will remain open space. Read More >

In 2013, Karen Guthrie and Nina Pope took part in a dig during a residency with the department of Archaeology at Cambridge University. Their experience led to Tomorrow, Today in 2014 – a scale model of the NW Cambridge development using the ancient technique of “cob” building. Graphic RCA: 50 Years traces the development of graphic design at the college through a timeline of work produced by students from 1963 to 2014. The exhibition includes some beautiful work by the big names. But beyond the celebrity seeks to demonstrate a fundamental and consistent self-questioning and an innovative approach within the school driven by staff and students to question what is graphic design. An attitude and approach that has been demonstrably carried beyond the college into the professional practices of its alumni. Read More >

Mimeographica Alphabetica – Fraser Muggeridge

Graphic designer Fraser Muggeridge worked with secondary school students to re-imagine the alphabet using a mimeograph printing machine, stencil lettering tools and guides. Muggeridge and his studio are known for inventive exhibition campaigns with artists, festivals and galleries including Whitechapel Gallery. Read More >

Alibis: Sigmar Polke 1963 – 2010

Polke’s work covers drawing, painting, print, photography, film, sculpture and everything in between. He seems to have had an endless appetite and energy, creating a vast body of work unrestricted by the established rules of convention. One process or practice bled into another, often building complex, layered and chaotic images. You could say he was a pop-artists, or a situationist, or an abstract expressionist, or a graphic designer. But from the show it seems he did his own thing, whatever he felt like, until he stopped doing that and moved on to the something else. Read More >
