Luckily, back in February I watched a presentation by Ben Terrett of The Newspaper Club at the Guardian Hacks SXSW weekend. Newspaper Club offers customers a simple and affordable way to design and print their own newspaper using the spare capacity on tabloid presses. Choose any number of pages, any number of copies and whether to print colour or black and white. I designed ours using InDesign and uploaded a pdf but an online design tool called ARTHR is also available.

It is a simple and painless process. The website is written in plain English. Anne who answers the emails does just that – no need to chase by phone. Papers go to press every Tuesday and are delivered less than a week later. No problem. No drama.

Anyway, our 24 page colour newspaper is called WORK / PLAY. The first half contains examples of studio research, exhibition projects and articles from the studio blog; the second half covers professional commissions including work for Channel 4, Helly Hansen, Reebok, Musto, Faber and more. They will be sent to existing and potential clients and will also be available at our open studio weekends in June.

WORK/PLAY gets a mention on Howies’ Brainfood blog.

Over the last 7 years Vincent has worked on a personal project in the woods around his childhood home of Falun. The collection of images use the skills learned photographing in challenging mountain locations to “illuminates nature in a new take, exploring the human urge for taking control over the environment.”. “Just like the old English proverb ‘you can’t go home again’, this summer’s photo exhibition at Dalarnas museum is about the philosophical question if you really can return back home.”

Vincent’s show opened on Saturday at Dalarnas Museum and runs until August 14th.

Late Friday afternoon dash to Kettle’s Yard for a show of work donated by artists and collectors being sold in support of the gallery’s expansion plans. Most of the pieces are taken as the show closes on Sunday (May 8th). The work includes headline pieces by Damien Hirst, Antony Gormley and Anish Kapoor. Also Michael Craig-Martin, Maggi Hambling, Helena Almeida and 2011 Turner Prize nominee Karla Black. The majority of work is from artists who have exhibited at the gallery and from those practicing in the town. The show offers a good cross-section of what Kettle’s Yard stands for. It is a contemporary/modern space (emphasis on contemporary) exhibiting work by international artists. Kettle’s Yard recently won £2.32 million lottery funding grant towards their £5 million target.
