Jehad Nga – Turkana:

turkana_1
Followed a link from Simon Larbalestier’s Facebook page to the work of Jehad Nga, an American born East African based photographer. He has worked in Somalia, Darfur and Iraq. His latest project documents the Turkana tribe in Kenya, who are experiencing the worst of the current droughts but are receiving very little in the way of food aid. Nga chose to remove the all too familiar parched famine landscape and to concentrate on the individuals being affected. To achieve this subjects were photographed inside a specially built hut. The improvised studio is uncompromising, ensuring that people remain the subject. The wider context and environment becomes conspicuous by it’s absence. Thanks to Jehad for permission to use his images.
