Maps is a Mercury nominated group fronted by James Chapman. Tonight him and one other on synthesizers. Red stage lighting and dry ice. The back room of the Portland Arms looks like a Hamburg strip joint, I imagine. Small and smokey. Looked and sounded great. BBC Radiophonic Workshop meets Soft Cell’s Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret. Their sound has changed since I last saw them … it’s a bit darker I think. Would make a great film soundtrack.

Really enjoyed this, not heard any of their music before so refreshingly new and a perfect venue. It drifted somewhere between a bedroom production and a Glastonbury dance tent. A 55 minute set with a single encore seemed just about perfect.
thanks for the company Rich – just got my signed (106/200) CD from Mute Bank. “Let go of the Fear” is now tormenting the family… actually just Michelle … the boys like it.
