Back to Oxfam and bought a couple of photography books by Patrick Lichfield and Robert Jowitt. Also the Vera Lynn record from yesterday. The type’s great, floating in the image space. Really doesn’t follow today’s design convention. Walden’s full of charity shops. Read More >

Another walk this afternoon. Today I came across, I mean I found, a lot of porn. Hard to think of anything that is more out of context at the side of a country road than a porno mag. Particularly like the Lucozade energy drink wrapper next to these two mags. Read More >

Found this flyer at the side of the road. This is authentic. It mixes graphics and colour and type and images in a non-designer way. It’s great, I love this kind of design because it’s not a reaction to club culture but IS club culture. It’s really hard to fake this sort of thing. Designers are often influenced by non-designer creativity but rarely get it right. Read More >

Michelle’s copy of The Picture Book finally arrived. Her work’s on the first 4 pages. It features her record cover for the band Headway and various illustrations for The Guardian. Michelle’s sort of a superstar illustrator and her work’s been in loads of UK, US and Asian design books and magazines like this for the past ten years. Read More >

August and I had a look at the den that’s been developing in the tip/wood next to Jane’s field. It’s pretty impressive, using fallen wood and all kinds of rubbish dumped there over the years. A sort of thatched lean-to, with a corrugated iron floor raised off the ground on concrete blocks.
